Most tube and pipe mills are equipped with traditional bead winders where the OD-scarf is wound onto a roll. Due to the immense risk of injury, more and more tube and pipe manufacturers are looking for solutions to eliminate this safety hazard. Saar-Hartmetall has developed special OD-nicker wheels and notching rolls that are equipped with several carbide knifes on the circumference.
The knifes notch the weld seam so that the scarf breaks into smaller chips during scarfing. The chips can then be easily removed from the tube mill with less risk to the machine operator.
