Saracom

SARACOM is a composite material with tailored material properties in tool areas where these
are required most. It is a powder-metallurgical combination of either cemented carbide and
steel, Stellites and steel or superalloys and steel.

The working area of this tool consists of different cemented carbide grades (17 to 30% binder
alloy), Stellites and respectively superalloys, whereas the basic body is made of a current
tool steel or a powder-metallurgical steel .

Compared with tools that are entirely made of solid tungsten carbide, the clamping of tools which are made of a composite material is much easier due to the better machinability of the basic body.

Unlike similar composite materials, the bonding of the Saracom-composites steel-cemented carbide, steel-Stellites or steel-superalloys is produced via the solid state diffusion process during the HIP-procedure.

The right choice of the matching components of the composite materials creates a stress relieved state which extends substantially the application range and the life of the tool.
