MOBILE, AL ( May 11, 2008) - Atlantic Marine Shipyard in Mobile, Alabama recently commissioned SHMUSA's Gerima SKF hand-held beveling tool for use by its shipfitters. The main application for this tool is for radious cutting steel plate for paint preparation. The advantages of this hand-held tool came to light due to its ease of use and that the tool can follow a multitude of contoured edges making it very easy for the shipyard to train new workers. Our tool was recently featured in an article about ship building in Alabama's Press-Register. In the picture above, the shipfitter is radius cutting the edges of a piece of the internal structural support system of a ship at Atlantic Marine. See the full article here...

First KFM II Installed in North America The KFM II is a medium sized stationary beveling machine that is perfect for industrial high-speed edge milling for chamfer or radius edges applications on straight plate or plate segments & weld coupons. Specially designed for high-volume production work, the easily understandable control panel for electronic control of feed and speed rates makes beveling and radius cutting efficient. Perfect for coupon size or long and narrow work pieces, this machine bevels widths up to 30 mm. The machine is suitable for various material types including aluminum, steel, fine-grained steel and stainless steel. The first KFM II installation in North America by the Saar-Hartmetall USA team was completed on April 24, 2008 by Iwan Antonow and David Schreiner with help from Gerima electrician, Jens Stamm. Exclaiming the machine to be "very sturdy, easy to use..." Norak employee Joe C. gave our machine an enthusiastic thumbs up! (see photo at right) SHMUSA's Executive Vice President Iwan Antonow said, "We're excited because this KFM II is a stationary machine that works well for the American market as it is sturdy, easy to operate, easy to install. We experienced no glitches or tech support calls from Norak with this install in the initial 30 days. We were very pleased with the outcome." |

O'Neal Steel Running FasRapid D LOUISVILLE, KY (May 22, 2008) - O'Neal Steel in their Louisville, Kentucky facility have been running our Gerima FasRapid Model D abrasive belt beveler very successfully. Jens Stamm, electrician for Gerima, assisted SHMUSA staff with this install. An enduring company 85 years strong, O'Neal Steel is now the United States' largest family-owned metals service center. Originally purchased for a specific project, the FasRapid D proved to be so versatile with staff that O'Neil is using the machine for everything that they need to bevel. Now 75% of what needs to be beveled in the company goes through the Fast Rapid D abrasive beveler. Appropriate for both small and large projects, the FasRapid D abrasive belt beveler produces bevels from 0 – 80º up to 60mm in width on materials up to 3 meters (10 feet) in length. This machine is perfect for any type of material including stainless steel carbon steel, abrasive resistant steel and titanium. |

HOUSTON, TX (May 16, 2008) - Chicago Bridge & Iron (CBI) in its Houston facility commissioned Saar-Hartmetall USA LLC to assist them with a beveling problem that has proven to be a unique application discovery for our beveling tool products. CBI tank manufacturing facility welds large segments of roll-bonded clad metal plate. During the manufacturing process, some of this clad material must be stripped-back to assure a smooth and safe weld. Using a Gerima beveling tool, the welder can now easily walk the tool around the 40 foot plate and remove material safely and efficiently. CB&I and Saar-Hartmetall formed a team to make a slight engineering adaptation on the handheld SKF beveling machines to meet this need for CBI. It has proven to be a helpful technique for several other clients. |
